Lucide (2010) fiberglass, hair, feathers, acrylic paint, plexiglass, vinyl, electronics
Five fiberglass eyes are housed in a plexiglas casing—when a gallery viewer opens an eye, a light sensor connected to an electronic circuit activates an audio track specific to the vocal part of either a bass, tenor, alto, soprano, or boy soprano voice singing the sacred choral song Cantique de Jean Racine (Gabriel Faure, 1845). These eyes are programmed to fall silent when no light is detected, such as when the eyelids are closed. Each of the five eyes in this sculpture can be opened and closed to create solos, duets, trios, quartets, a full choir, or periods of silence.
